Killjoys

Killjoys Season 3 follows bounty hunters Dutch, Johnny and D'avin as they assemble a trustworthy team to prepare for a battle against the Hullen threat.
I was the Lead Motion Graphics Designer on this season of Killjoys, supervised by Tim Peel at Junction Box Design. I updated and refined the established visual language from previous seasons for the Lucy Spaceship and RAC Command while conceptualizing, designing and animating new UI/design language for the various episodic locations and sets visited throughout the season.
All of the motion graphics were built to play back live on-set, and interactive apps were built for the tablets used throughout the season.
Showrunner: Michelle Lovretta
Client: Syfy, Space
Lucy Spaceship
The spacecraft owned by Dutch and used as the transport and working/living space by the Killjoys team. I updated the design and created additional screens within the Lucy UI design language established in previous seasons.
RAC Command
The RAC (Reclamation Apprehension Coalition) is an independent, neutral organization that licenses and governs the "Killjoys" bounty hunters. Throughout the season, RAC Command plays an integral part as a home base for tactical, medical and logistical planning for the Killjoys.
Black Root Ship
An advanced technology spacecraft, these ships were developed by the Hullen as armed security craft.
The interior screens stood out in the sparse and brightly lit ships and were meant to provide visual interest as well as help later on in the season to show narrative driven sequences on the main table console.
Hullen Power Room
The Killjoys trace the last coordinate of the Black Root Ship to a planet that was previously used as a Hullen training camp. Johnny and D'avin are led by the planet's inhabitants to the old Power Room.
Meant to be an outdated tech room from years past, I drew inspiration for the design of these screens from Star Wars.
Livio Surgical Spa
Johnny goes undercover to visit the Livio Surgical Spa to follow a head about his missing sister Clara.
Johnny makes himself comfortable as he gets his face scanned to see what cosmetic upgrades Livio could provide, which involved live projection of the "possible outcome" on set. The spa also contained an assortment of hand-scanning tablets and minimal screen graphics in the set design.
Medical Screens
RAC Command had multiple locations that included medical equipment and screens to perform plot-focused tests, including DNA scans, surgeries and recoveries.
I had a fun time expanding the RAC design language from previous seasons to display data-driven storytelling and set dressing in these scenes.
Misc. Tablets
Throughout the season, I designed and animated an assortment of motion graphics for tablets, used for plot-driven narrative points or as visual interest. This included narrative-focused tablets for RAC Command, door access pads and a bad guy's animated space-gun magazine.
